Welcome to my blog!
My name is Remi Levinson, I am currently a Junior Communications Major at USC, and this is my blog for ASCJ 200.
In this space, I want to analyze the way I’m consuming media and how much of an impact this has on how I see the world. Living in a digital age, there are so many different media sources, and I want to start paying more attention to the legitimacy of the sources I am reading from, and what possible biases they may have on different topics. I also want to make sure when I am consuming media, I’m thinking about other perspectives on what I am reading about, and how issues may be portrayed differently by different outlets or on different platforms.
I’ve noticed when reading news articles most of the time I don’t directly go to the source but instead find it when scrolling through my social media accounts. Twitter has been a really good way for me to stay informed as they have started to send out notifications about topics that are globally trending. When I look through trending topics a lot of the time I find myself reading articles on The New York Times or The Washington Post. I’m originally from Australia, so early in the year when there were severe bushfires I found myself reading a lot of articles posted by The Australian and The Sydney Morning Herald. I have since continued to use these sources to stay connected with what is happening at home whilst I’m on the other side of the world. I also find myself reading a lot of articles on Billboard, I want to work in the music industry after I graduate so this has been a great way for me to keep up with what is happening in the industry.

Most of the people I follow on social media accounts are musicians or YouTubers who produce content I really enjoy. I recently started following Lewis Capaldi, and really enjoy the lighthearted photos and memes that he posts. I also follow artists such as Miley Cyrus and Harry Styles, who I listen to regularly, but also both post about issues they believe in such as gun violence and climate change. I also follow a lot of YouTubers on social media platforms, Emma Chamberlain is someone I’ve always liked to follow because her posts are always very authentic. Finally after binge watching the remake of Queer Eye on Netflix I started following Jonathan Van Ness, who posts a good balance of personal content and information on his political viewpoints.
